Eagle Barbara Balkin Fiber Arts, Collage, Piano Barbara Balkin’s interest in art began as a child, inspired by visits to L.A. museums and botanical gardens, and family camping trips. Since earning an Interior and Environmental Art degree at U.C.L.A., her professional creative experiences include residential and commercial design, ceramic tableware design, and art studio owner and instructor. Her designs have been featured in Bon Appetit and Good Housekeeping magazines, LA Daily News and Boise Weekly, on sets at Disney Studios, and in television commercials for General Electric, Vons, and Kraft Foods. Barbara is a multi-disciplinary artist with an emphasis on fiber art, collage, and painting. When you see her art, you know that her travels inform her work and are her source of inspiration. She incorporates nature elements into her woven wall hangings and enjoys the challenge of using interesting combinations of materials, textures, and color. Moving her family from Los Angeles to Boise in 2010, she continues her love of teaching art to all ages. She strives to expand students’ creative horizons, as they experiment with various art mediums and techniques. Students are encouraged to incorporate their own ideas, in addition to her teachings. Artist’s Statement: “Lately I’ve been weaving on some unique objects. I enjoy exploring the interplay between man-made and natural elements, evoking a dialogue between nature and industry, tranquility and confinement. Just in case you come across a vintage car grill (to create a giant ‘loom’ for a weaving), please give me a call! Really…I mean it!” See other instructors here.
