S MERIDIAN Krissy Vollrath (Multi-Media Art) Krissy's artistic skills are a marvel, encompassing various mediums and techniques. Her repertoire is a rich tapestry of creativity from drawing and painting to Gourd Art and Print Making. She also excels in mixed media, fresh and silk floral arrangements, visual journaling, photography, paper making, found object planters, wire sculpture, and handmade book binding. Since the inception of her artistic journey, Krissy's fervor for creative expression and learning has remained steadfast. Her tireless exploration of new, inventive artistic techniques and experiences is a testament to her unwavering dedication to continuous growth, innovation, and creativity. Krissy's upbringing in the suburbs of Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN, and her numerous stays at her grandparents’ lake home, 'The Cabin' in Danbury, WI, have fostered a deep love for the beauty of nature. This profound connection to the natural world guides her work, evoking a sense of tranquility and appreciation that is palpable in her art. High school was a time of blossoming creativity for Krissy. She participated in many extracurricular activities, designing and creating sets and backdrops for her high school theatre productions. Her monthly school newspaper and yearbook contributions honed her writing and photography skills. At 16, she began working part-time for Addie Lane Floral in Moundsview, MN, in the evenings after classes, further expanding her artistic horizons. The owners taught her everything from basic floral arranging to wedding, funeral, special occasion arranging, and plant and flower care. During her college studies, Krissy took an art class every semester until graduation, learning many fine art skills and exploring a variety of mediums. She wanted to experience it all. Krissy’s work was selected and showcased during her studies at numerous college art exhibitions. After graduating with honors with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies and teaching certifications in Pre-K-8 general education, ESL, and Special Education, and a Gifted and Talented Supplemental in Texas and Utah, Krissy taught in two public school districts in Houston, TX, until moving to Idaho in 2021. After moving to Idaho, Krissy became a member of the Owyhee Garden Club and the Idaho Gourd Society, where, once again, she has taken as many gourd art classes as she can sign up for to learn new and innovative techniques for working with this highly versatile medium. She uses her vast array of fine art skills in combination with gourds to produce unique and interesting works. Krissy’s newest pursuit is learning to weld to create medium—to large-scale found-object metal sculptures. See other instructors here.
