S MERIDIAN, EAGLE JAY ROBERTSON (Gouache, Watercolor, Acrylics, Alcohol Inks) ARTIST STATEMENT: Greetings fellow artists and art appreciators! I have been painting for approximately 20 years, mainly in acrylics and watercolor. Long before I started painting I was enamored with landscapes - the scope, vistas, contours, colors, heights and valleys of nature move me so. In making art the artist focuses on finding or manufacturing interesting shapes. Almost all the shapes I find in nature are interesting to me. I feel fortunate to live in Idaho so I can experience this every day, around every corner a new vista. I remember when I was a boy and my family drove into Denver at night (from Mississippi) on vacation. When I woke up I still remember being moved by the height and majesty of the mountains - those were my very first. And they really were tinted purple, just like the song says. I started this creative journey during my time as a child/family therapist. It became clear to me that I needed something to help me reset my mind and heart after listening to conflictual stories each day. So I chose to take the step in the creative direction. I would like to think that my art is strongly informed by the Source of Creation and the spiritual realm. If we are made in Creator’s image, shouldn’t we all create at some level? I’m disappointed when I hear things like “Oh you’re so talented; I don’t have that gift, etc.” Well my philosophy is we all have the creative spark; we just need to find the right media or mode of expression. And in my case it’s more of a developed skill versus a gift - years of falling down and getting back up. And there’s always more to learn. My suggestion to everyone: follow your heart and get into your boat and let the creative current take you where it will - a life changing experience. I am grateful that you are here and have become part of my journey. Blessings to you in yours. Check the availability for another instructor here.
